Ulvsby Herrgård has a distinguished history dating back to 1530. The manor house has connections to Queen Kristina and Selma Lagerlöf and has been the scene of many splendid parties over the years. The tradition continues to this day, as Marianne Krönsjö welcomes guests for overnight stays, conferences and celebrations.
“As regional manager for a large company, I travelled a lot on business for many years. I was fascinated by how some places made guests feel so welcome, while others totally failed to do so – even though the space was the same. This set me thinking that one day I would like to own a place where guests feel truly welcome. That has been my dream for a long time.”
In 2011 the dream came true when Marianne Krönsjö purchased Ulvsby Herrgård in Sunne, on the shores of Lake Fryken. The manor house was already being used as a hotel, but Marianne has developed the business and now welcomes leisure travellers, business travellers and conferences.
The restaurant at Ulvsby Herrgård is highly respected and is listed in the White Guide. But what is the recipe for success?
“I love food! I always have. My great aunt worked as a chef at the royal palace in Stockholm, and I still remember visiting her in the palace kitchens as a little girl. The simple things are often the best, and here we are very much focused on Swedish and Värmland cuisine.”
The menu features locally sourced ingredients from ethical and sustainable producers, but the kitchen often adds a cosmopolitan note to the finished creation.
“My main motivation is the people who visit Ulvsby Herrgård. They arrive as guests and leave as friends. I want you to feel welcome, make yourself at home and enjoy the good life for a while,” says Marianne.
Many guests combine a taste of manor house life with a cultural weekend. A performance at Västanå Teater and dinner and a night or two at Ulvsby Herrgård is a popular combination.
“We’re fortunate to be located in a fantastic area up here by Lake Fryken, with plenty of fun and exciting activities, good food and drink, and beautiful places to explore.”
