A Värmland Wild West at Sun Dance Ranch

Maybe it was fate that all roads led her”, says Anita Teunissen standing on the courtyard surrounded by horses south of Byn, Ekshärad.

2007 was the year for her first meeting with Sweden and Värmland. According to her friends, Sweden would be the perfect country to start up her dream. Her big dream of having her own ranch. Her love of the countryside was immediate and within six months almost everything was finished - house, ranch, planning permission and bank loan. Of course the move did not go unnoticed. Anita Teunissen was born and raised in Holland.

This is Anita

When Anita Teunissen told her parents that she would be moving 140 miles north to another country they at first though she was joking. Then they became very angry Had she fallen off a horse and hit her head?

“They are no longer angry now. When they came here they saw immediately that this is me”, explains Anita, laughing.

And over the years since the move Sun Dance Ranch has been transformed into something of a Värmland wild west. With horses, horse riding western style, its own saloon and of course a rocking chair on the southern states veranda.

“Western riders come here who want to get the “cowboy feeling”, but we also have absolute beginners who start from scratch. Everybody can try things out at their own level. We offer everything from individual riding lessons to activity-filled holiday packages.

Genuine western conviviality

The changing surroundings around Klarälven with its water and mountains are made for riding. The horses and the horse riding are the core of the business. But Anita can promise a holistic experience. Besides the horsemanship activities, riding different distances and professional horse training, swimming, cycling, paddling, fishing and all-terrain vehicle driving are also offered. The guests stay in cabins or or the mini camp site. Dinner is frequently enjoyed in front of the fire.

So, it is Ekshärad where you need to go for genuine western conviviality and horse riding, for the day or for a well-deserved break during the week.
