Naturbyn: Experience the real nature of Värmland

Shut off, disengage and relax. There are no demands or obligations here. At Naturbyn outside of Långserud in Värmland it’s real outdoor living that counts.

Simple, scaled down and extremely natural. That is Naturbyn. When Thomas Petersson decided to return to the countryside of his childhood he began the job of developing Naturbyn. There was nothing here ten years ago, apart from an inaccessible area with an uncleared forest.

“I want to offer easily-accessible outdoor living in as natural way as possible”, explains Thomas Petersson.  “When I began developing this village I had a vision of creating a place that I would want to go to.

The guests at Naturbyn stay in simple cabins and cook their food over an open fire. There is no electricity here. The food is served on smoothed-off logs that are simply pulled up when the food is served. Some guests only stay for a few days, other move into Naturbyn and stay a week or more. There are plenty of nature activities to take part in.

“We have canoes for those who want to get off by themselves and discover all of the fine islands and shores of the lake.

Fishing or exploring the lake are also popular.

There is some very special accommodation for guests who are celebrating. The so-called “Cuckoo’s Nest (Gökboet) is a real gem - a timbered wedding suite high up in the trees with a balcony and fantastic views towards Lake Eldan. Heating comes from the wood-burning stove and light from photogenic lamps. You can’t really get much closer to Värmland nature than that.
