Enjoy Lake Vänern

Enjoy the wilderness and the cultural landscape

It is easiest to form an opinion of the unique nature and wilderness of Värmland if you take your thoughts high up a mountain. To the north your eye meets the southernmost mountain area in Sweden. Down in the valley you follow one of our rivers or a small lake surrounded by a big forest. To the south the landscape is alight with fertile arable land to open up on the horizon by the shore of Lake Värnern.

You are not alone if you come to Värmland for the sake of the nature. For relaxation and recuperation. Or for breathtaking adventures that give you lifelong memories. A simple summary is over 1000 kilometres of hiking trails and canoe trails in unspoiled wilderness.

We share this spellbinding environment with a rich animal life. Keep an eye out for signs of them. If you are lucky you will get the chance to get close up to them for a magical moment. During late summer and autumn there are good opportunities to enjoy all of the good things given to us by nature - mushrooms, blueberries, lingonberries, raspberries an cloudberries. Stock up the freezer and larder with the delicacies of the forest!

Granberget east of Höljes in the north is the highest point in Värmland at 701 metres above sea level. At the summit stands a twelve metre high observation tower. From here you cannot only gaze out over the unspoiled nature of Värmland, but always a fair bit into Norway too.

The archipelago in the norther part of Vänern is a holiday paradise. It’s easy to find a natural harbour here to spend the night. Discover your own little strip of shoreline or enjoy the warmth from the rocks. Bath, play and take a swim. The water of Vänerns is clean and very clear!
