Hällemyren - a "earth house"

Värmland's only "earth house" dugout is located in Säffle, inhabited until 1880 - century.
At the marshy Hällemyren laid out a number of "earth house", back cottages and crofts. During the 1800s most of the houses disappeared. The "earth house" was found and restored in 1980 for the Gillberga Folklore Society. The first residents acc. protocol "Engvakten", Anders Jansson, born in 1794. In 1818, he stands written in Hällemyren along with his wife Maria Eriksdotter.

According Household Examination protocol was the "earth house" inhabited between 1818 and 1886, and at most lived a family of 10 persons here, on a floor area of less than 8 square meters. An easy hiking trail in the beautiful scenery leads to this historic heritage. Length of the trail is about 1 km. Hällemyren är en myr som en gång varit uppodlad men som nu är igenväxt med skog. Från bilväg leder en snitslad gångstig fram till jordkulan som är väl värd ett besök.
From Säffle road 175 towards Arvika. Turn of towards Kolsäter north of Gillberga. Right before Kolsäter turn right towards Emilsdals gård (farm). From this road is the road to Hällemyren marked.
